President – Charles Copley Gerdes
Charles Copley Gerdes is married to Cecily Gerdes. Having known each other since their days at St. Petersburg Catholic High School and since reuniting in 2014 they have always found ways to give back to the community. Copley has volunteered for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Northwest Baseball, St. Jude’s Youth Ministry program, St. Pete Catholic Baseball and Drama Department, and the City of St. Pete’s Baseball Forever Campaign. When Copley and Cecily found out about McKinley’s diagnosis they jumped at the opportunity to create an event to help support the Moore family. After the golf tournament’s first year of success they decided to make their impact a more permanent one and created Love McKinley, LLC 501©3. Copley is a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual and has been part of the leadership team in the St. Pete office since 2012. Copley is also the Co-President of Northwestern Mutual of Greater Tampa Bay’s Community Action Committee (which supports Alex’s Lemonade Stand and All Children’s Hospital).
Secretary/Treasurer – Cecily (Valenty) Gerdes
Cecily Gerdes is an HR Director (PHR) in the Tampa Bay area and an extended family member to the Moore family. She has been involved with the planning and organizing of numerous charity and social events in the local St. Pete/Tampa Bay area. When she and husband Copley Gerdes heard of McKinley’s diagnosis they organized a golf tournament as a way for family and friends to show their love and support for McKinley and her family. The amazing turn out from the community at the event inspired them to want to do more within the larger local community, and together with the Moore family, Love McKinley, Inc. was born!
Director – Karen Moore
Originally from Seminole, FL, Karen Moore now resides in Bradenton, FL with her husband Casey and two children, McKinley and Brady. Karen’s family has a long-standing relationship with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Her mother, Carol, has been a long-time member of the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Foundation Guild, which serves as a fundraising arm for the foundation. Growing up Karen volunteered at a variety of fundraising events for the guild and is currently serving as a member of the Johns Hopkins Family Advisory Council. This council meets on a monthly basis and works to promote family-centered care and to help hospital personnel understand the emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families – and consider these needs as part of a comprehensive approach to their care. Being the parent of a sick child has provided a motivation and focused passion for giving back and making a difference in the lives of families and patients going through treatment.
Director – Casey Moore
Casey is the proud father of Brady and McKinley Moore and loving husband of Karen Moore. He resides with his family in Bradenton, FL. Having grown up in St. Petersburg, FL, for him, keeping a local focus is a key component of the work of the Love McKinley organization. His hope is that the work of the foundation will make the road ahead for any child or family a little less challenging. He is thankful for all of those who have stepped up to support his family during their time of need and hopes to use the work of Love McKinley to give back to others who are in need of similar support.
