Six weeks after her second birthday McKinley Moore was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. In April 2016, shortly after her diagnosis, the Love McKinley organization sprang to life. Inspired by the love and support that they received throughout McKinley’s treatment, her parents along with close friends and family, made the decision to help others in similar circumstances.
With a focus on supporting families in the local Tampa Bay area the organization has partnered with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. This partnership has allowed the organization to have an immediate and direct impact on those families battling pediatric cancer in the local community.
In April of 2017 the Love McKinley Fund was established through the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Foundation. Utilizing the proceeds from this fund, the organization will work with the hospital in order to improve the resources available to families throughout their course of treatment for pediatric cancer.
This long journey, 2 ½ to 3 years for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (the most common form of pediatric cancer), can be a tiresome, frustrating, painful and fearful one. Our hope is that through our fundraising efforts we can ease the burden on families going through this fight. Whether it is helping to pay the monthly bills or providing an entertaining distraction for a young patient during a prolonged clinic visit, our goal is to make this battle one that families do not feel like they have to fight alone.
